Demi Moore vs. Sharon Stone

Two actresses. Roughly the same age, give or take 5-7 years, both one time superstars who have seen their stars dim over the years. At their peak, Sharon Stone was a huge star, where as Demi was an uber-star, up there with male titans such as Bruce, Ahnold, and Sly. A lot of their acclaim came more from their good looks and willingness to get naked in front of the camera. If you look at the movies they've been in, it's not that impressive, Stone's especially. Her hits include 'Basic Instinct' and 'Casino', with 'Sliver' thrown in due to the intense sex scenes. Demi had done better, starting with 'St. Elmo's Fire', more a guilty good film than anything else, along with 'A Few Good Men' though that movie is all about Jack and Tom, and finally, if it's your thing, 'Ghost.' Two careers, nothing remarkable, beyond the fact both participated in on screen sex romps with Mr. Zeta Jones, Stone in her most famous role, and Demi in the reverse sexual harrassment flick 'Disclosure.' Based on a past like that, both women should be settling in to moderate anonymity. But they're not. In fact, they are bigger than ever, for no good reason.

Stone's resurgance makes more sense. She just starred in the horrible 'Catwoman' and has a spread showing off her still sexy body in Rolling Stone. Plus the lawsuit for Basic Instinct Part Duex was settled, so pretty much all of her press these days relates to her career. Not so for Demi.

Demi is famous again because she is having sex with Ashton Kutcher. That's it. That's why she's in all these magazines. Sure she was in the second Charlie's Angels movie, in itself a horrible horrible horrible movie. I can't stress that enough, it was awful. The first one I loved, perfect mix of silly, sexy and action, along with the two best dance sequences in modern cinenam memory, Cameron shaking her thing at Soul Train, and the creepy shimmy Sam Rockwell busts out as the bad guy at the end of the flick. Back to Demi, she plays the baddie in Charlie's Angels, it flops, though she gets great press for her stunning (fake as plastic fruit) body, and her new romance with the Kutch. So how does this push her back to the top of the celebrity stratosphere? Where are the newer movies? Where's anything of substance? Don't tell me we are supposed to embrace based on the dude she dates and the silly red string on her wrist. Sorry Esther and your crew, but I'm just not buying it.

I guess my point is, give some more love to Sharon Stone as opposed to Demi. At least she is out there trying, working, making an effort. Demi is just plain lazy.
