It's a Rock 'n Roll fans dream come true. Bruce Springsteen announced yesterday that he plans to share the stage with legendary rocker John Fogerty.
'(John's) going to sit in with the E Street Band. That's going to be a big thrill,' Springsteen said in an interview with the New Jersey Star Ledger. '(He) doesn't have a band right now, so we're gonna do our best for him (laughs).'
When asked if he himself would join Fogerty and his E Street bandmates on stage, Springsteen exclaimed, 'Are you kidding me? I'm going to be playing those John Fogerty songs. You better believe it.'
Springsteen and the E Street Band, along with Fogerty, will headline an arena tour with REM, and Bright Eyes. Other seperate tours will feature pairings of various acts, such as like the Dixie Chicks with James Taylor; Pearl Jam with Death Cab for Cutie; and John Mellencamp with Babyface.
The early October tour will steer clear of the major market areas, instead hitting key cities in electoral swing states, all in an effort to get Bush out of office and sway the Presidential vote towards John Kerry.
'The goal is very clear. We want to change administrations in November,' says Springsteen. ' (It's) a combination of voter mobilization and some education. It's going to be a lot of fun, and entertaining for people -- and inspirational, hopefully.'
While many entertainers and artists like Linda Ronstadt and the Dixie Chicks get flack for speaking their minds or expousing their political views, Springsteen believes that people fundamentally don't rely on musicians for their political opinions.
'(The) artist-audience relationship is more complicated than that,' The Boss told the Star Ledger. 'I always give the example of -- I've gotten more inspiration and soul from, say, the movies of John Wayne, throughout my life ... I found them consistently inspirational. But I was never a fan of John Wayne's politics, you know?'
The Vote for Change tour is being presented by MoveOn.org's political action committee MoveOn PAC and America Coming Together (ACT).
