Twenty-Five Years of Oprah

Oprah Winfrey signed a three-year contract extension that will keep “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on the air until 2011. The extension means that the show will be on for a full 25 seasons. There has been no indication that the show will end after that. The financial details of the contract were not released. 'The thought of taking the show to its 25th anniversary is both exhilarating and challenging,' Winfrey said in a statement. 'The years ahead will allow me to continue to grow along with my viewers and will give my production company the time and opportunity to use the show as a launching pad to create and develop additional projects and potential future shows.' With the success of “Dr. Phil” it is likely that Oprah will attempt other spinoff programs featuring other advisors that she has had on her shows. 'A couple years ago, everyone was getting ready for her to leave, and that was a reason to launch 'Dr. Phil,' because they thought he'd be the successor,' said Bill Carroll, vice president and director of programming for the Katz Television Group, which advises TV stations on sales and programming. What the extension means, he said, is that 'she'll continue to be the wealthiest and most influential woman on TV.'
