Mike Wallace, the veteran correspondent of televisions hard-hitting investigative news program '60 Minutes', was handcuffed and driven to a police station Tuesday night after an argument with city inspectors outside a New York City restaurant.
The dispute began after Wallace exited the Manhattan restaurant and found two city inspectors speaking with his driver. The driver had apparently double-parked outside the eatery while Wallace ran in for some take-out.
According to WCBS-TV, the Taxi and Limousine Commission said Wallace became 'overly assertive and disrespectful' while interfering with the inspectors questioning of his driver. The commission also asserted that Wallace lunged at one of the inspectors, after which he was handcuffed and taken away. At the police station, Wallace was issued a summons for disorderly conduct and was later released.
The restaurant manager Luigi Militello told WCBS that Wallace was 'manhandled' by the inspectors during the dispute.
CBS said in a statement Tuesday night that Wallace was at home and that more information would be released if it became available.
