Rumors are swirling that Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake are engaged. The announcement follows on the heels of recent stories that they were splitting up and that Timberlake had cheated. The couple has been dating for a little more than a year after meeting at an awards ceremony. Timberlake, who is rumored to have the nickname “Trousersnake” has been touring for much of that time with Diaz in close attendance. Timberlake recently sued a tabloid over reports that he had a liaison with a young brunette in London. And Diaz made headlines of her own when an explicit video she made when she was younger surfaced on the internet.

Sources say that Timberlake obtained the permission of Diaz’s parents as well as his own mother before popping the question. They are planning to keep the wedding a low-key affair. British newspapers are reporting that Timberlake’s representatives have confirmed the proposal but the story has not been picked up by American news sources yet and may yet prove to be a red herring. Timberlake, 23, previously dated Britney Spears while Diaz, 31 was with actor Jared Leto.
