Kauai, HI - Holden Automotive, an independent film company based on the Hawaiian island of Kauai and run by writer/director/executive producer, Larry Holden, best known for his supporting roles in the films of Chris Nolan ('Memento,' 'Insomnia,' and the upcoming 'Batman Begins'), is taking an unorthodox approach to funding its current feature film production by offering a role in the company's subsequent production through an online auction on eBay.
With less than a month to go before the shooting of Through East Texas is set to begin, and after the unexpected withdrawal of a substantial investor from the production, the company has found itself under-budget and in immediate need of the funds necessary to complete the production this September. Having exhausted all conventional means of raising funds, and with time running out, writer/director/executive producer Larry Holden and producer Adam Shea were at a loss as to how to generate the final infusion of cash required for the successful completion of their imminent production.
Holden and Shea decided to auction off a featured role in an upcoming production, To Burma Shave (to be filmed in 2005), to the highest bidder, along with a financial share in both films and other considerations. 'This started out as a wacky idea to raise money hatched over morning coffee,' said Holden. 'We are amazed that it gained so much interest so quickly.' Within the first three days of being listed, the auction has been visited over 30,000 times, received mention on numerous websites including Salon.com, and has spurred a flurry of e-mails to the production company's website, www.holdenautomotive.com.
