George Clinton Pleads No Contest

Funkmaster George Clinton pleaded no contest to drug charges on Wednesday. Clinton was ordered to serve 200 hours of community service and two years of probation. The ruling will not prevent Clinton from beginning his world tour at the end of August. Clinton was arrested last December in Florida. The 62-year old Parliament Funkadelic founder was booked on possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia after being found in a parked car with crack and a crack pipe.

His attorneys originally claimed illegal search and seizure when Clinton was arrested in Tallahassee, Florida near his recording studio. The felony possession drug charge has been dropped. In a release, Clinton’s attorney said that he believed his client “would have been exonerated had the case gone any further.”

Clinton, whose rainbow-colored mug shot made him one of the most colorful in recent history is said to be interested in teaching music education courses as part of his community service. Clinton, who has been elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for such songs as “Atomic Dog” tours in a group known as George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars.
