'The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement' is one of those movies you HAVE to take your young daughter and her five best friends.

The sequel to the popular 2001 fantasy, targeted at tween girls - those in the 8 to 12 year old age group - takes place five years after the original. Princess Mia (Anne Hathaway) visits her Genovian castle for the first time since she found out she was really royalty. Much to her surprise she finds out about one of the quirky laws of her new kingdom - she must marry within 30 days in able to become queen.

Of course there is the perfect mate awaiting, Duke Andrew (Callum Blue), and the nuptials are set. But wait, Viscount Mabry (John Rhys-Davies) has other plans, and wants to set his son Lord Nicholas (Chris Pine) on the throne instead. In the classic comedy/romance formula, Mia falls for the 'bad boy' who isn't so bad after all, and forsakes the 'good guy'.

Add to this Julie Andrews as Queen Clarisse, a senseless pajama party, and Andrews singing with Disney star Raven and you have the making of another hit movie - well at least with the target audience.

Hathaway as Mia is once again a delight to watch, though some of the dialogue and pratfalls seem a bit forced. And it is always a delight to see Andrews sing on film or stage. An added bonus is Hector Elizondo's performance as the head of security who wishes to marry the queen once she steps down.
