Rapper Lil’ Kim called a press conference today at the Bryant Park Hotel. The purpose of the conference? To proclaim her innocence on the perjury and obstruction of justice charges she is facing. “I am innocent,” she said, vowing to continue to fight the charges. 'Throughout my life and throughout my career, I've been a survivor.'

Lil’ Kim was accompanied by her lawyer, Mel Sachs. The rapper, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, was indicted in April on charges claiming that she was involved in a 2001 shooting outside a New York radio station. Lil’ Kim claimed that she wasn’t present at the time of the shooting and didn’t know the suspects. She called the case a witch hunt and part of the government’s “continued indictment against hip-hop and the hip-hop industry.' Lil’ Kim, 29, is charged with one count of conspiracy, three counts of perjury, three counts of making false statements and one count of obstruction of justice. The obstruction charge alone could cost Lil’ Kim a maximum of ten years in jail. She pleaded innocent in U.S. District Court last month. Her trial is set to begin on February 28th.

Lil’ Kim also took this opportunity to publicize her business ventures. She announced the formation of a charity called Lil' Kim Cares, which will help battered women, runaway children and homeless people. Lil’ Kim has disclosed in the past that she was an abused child and ran away from home. Lil’ Kim also showed off one of the watches from her “Royalty” line. She is working on a new album with her boyfriend, producer, Scott Storch.
