CBS has announced its newest batch of castaways for Survivor 9. The cast of scheming hotties will be set loose on the South Pacific island of Vanuatu--part of the infamous ring of fire area of volcanoes. This season it’s a gender showdown when the Lopevi tribe (Mars) battles Yasur tribe (Venus).
The cast is full of the usual suspects, busty young women hoping to use sex appeal as a bargaining tool, tough-guy military types, and people from a variety of backgrounds. Each side has a model. For the women, it’s Ami Cusack, a barista from Colorado. For the men, it’s Los Angeles hunk and mechanical bull operator, John Kenney. Other contestants include a sheep farmer, a rancher, and a finance manager. The cast is relatively youthful with most members in their twenties and thirties. Scout Cloud Lee, 59, a rancher from Oklahoma has the distinction of being the oldest cast member.
The ninth season will begin with a two-hour episode Sept. 16 on CBS. Jeff Probst will once again be hosting with his usual mock severity and ennui. No new twists have been announced for the show and with both the location and the tribe arrangement mirroring early seasons, one wonders if CBS has run out of ways to entice viewers to turn into another season of starvation and backbiting.
