Mase to Puffy: Be a Producer not a Performer
As rapper Mase prepares for the release of his new album, he steps out of the shadow of Sean “P Diddy” Combs and into his own spotlight.
When Mase made his debut in 1997, P. Diddy was featured in many of the rapper’s videos, including “Feel So Good”; where P. Diddy donned a number one t-shirt and Mase wore number two.
Now with his comeback album Welcome Back, the rapper-turned-pastor wants to enjoy his stardom independently. “I have to say this: it is a total robbery to the artist, because how can you really focus on a person’s career. I mean really, this time I can’t lie. I can’t sugarcoat it. That wouldn’t help me. I’m saying this is not just for Puff but for everybody else too.” Mase told Southflorida.com.
The rapper proves that point on his Welcome Back video, where Diddy is featured in a brief cameo. “Diddy should focus on promoting his artists instead of dominating screen time in their videos.” Said Mase on www.sohh.com.
The comeback LP will be released through a deal with Fo Reel/Bad Boy records, despite rumors that only Fo Reel Entertainment would be producing Mase’s new album. Yet, Mase refuses to be mistreated by either label or he won’t hesitate to leave. “At this point in my life, who cares about a contract,” Mase shared. “If tomorrow I feel like they’re not going to do right. I’m gone. I’m a different person now, everything’s got to be different.”
