MTV Films Says 'Yeah!' to new Usher movie

R&B singer Usher has capped pop charts with his dance hits and soulful ballads, yet an upcoming project may draw his audiences to movie theaters.

MTV Films has announced plans to produce a feature for the Atlanta native. The movie’s storyline is still in the works, however MTV has announced that it will not be an autobiographical piece for the 23-year-old entertainer.

In addition to the lead role, Usher will also executive produce the movie – distributed by Paramount Pictures - and it’s accompanying soundtrack.

The new feature film will add to Usher’s growing resume of screen roles - he has appeared in teen-friendly flicks such as 'Light It Up,' 'She's All That' and 'The Faculty.' He’s also landed roles on TV’s 'American Dreams,' 'The Twilight Zone' and 'The Bold and the Beautiful.' Usher will next be seen playing Jackie Wilson in this fall’s Ray Charles biopic, “Ray”, from Universal Pictures.

Although, MTV has abandoned earlier plans for an Usher film titled 'Confessions,' Usher’s album of the same title has skyrocketed to the largest album of 2004, with 4.8 million copies sold. The album has generated three No. 1 singles, including 12-week heavyweight 'Yeah!' which reached the number one spot both in the US and the UK.
