The Showtime cable network has ordered six episodes of “Fat Actress,” a series mixing reality with fiction. Kirstie Alley will play a larger-than-life version of herself. The former “Cheers” star has been splashed across tabloids recently for her weight gain. The show will feature Alley and others in unscripted performances grouped around a main storyline. The show will document Alley’s quest for love and career satisfaction while dealing with the media response to her weight gain. The series begins production in Los Angeles in September and should air next year. 'Kirstie is a very funny woman, and I think women across the country will identify with her,' said Brenda Hampton, a ‘Seventh Heaven” producer who will share executive producer credit with Alley. If Alley can turn doughnuts to dollars and energize her lagging career more power to her.
