Some pop singers (hello Britney) wish they had never gotten married, others pretend they were. Music producer Robert Smith who was supposedly married to pop singer Brandy, is now claiming they were never married. Smith claims the “marriage” was to protect Brandy’s image since she was pregnant with his child, their daughter Sy’rai. Smith was a guest on the 'Moment of Truth,' a feature of The Wendy Williams Experience, when he dropped the bombshell he and Brandy were never married. He said Brandy was his 'jump-off' chick and that he was still seeing another woman, now seven months pregnant. Smith would not reveal her name. According to Smith, Brandy’s mom wanted to protect the Moesha star’s good-girl reputation when she wound up pregnant by Smith.

This bombshell follows on the heels of the release of Brandy’s fourth album, Afrodisiac. In a statement issued by her publicist, she claimed she was 'hurt and shocked' by Smith's revelations. Instead of a legally recognized marriage, she claims they had a 'spiritual union and a true commitment to each other.' Otherwise known as yes, she lied.

Brandy is currently dating LA Clipper Quentin Richardson and shares custody of her daughter with Smith. She has claimed that she never loved Smith and he has said that she was originally his girl on the side and that he has gone back to his previous girlfriend, a film producer who is now pregnant.
