Jerry Goldsmith, composer of scores for The Omen, Star Trek, and Basic Instinct has died at 75.
Goldsmith was known for his musical scores for numerous films, including Chinatown, Poltergeist, Planet of the Apes, Hoosiers, Patton, and The Mummy - earning 17 Academy Award nominations and the Oscar in 1977 for his work on The Omen.
Born in Los Angeles he attended the University of Southern California, and studied under such greats as Jakob Gimpel and Miklos Rozsa.
He passed away in his Beverly Hills home after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife and five children.
