The syndicated TV series 'On-Air with Ryan Seacrest' is going off the air, permanently.
Despite network expectations, Seacrest, 29, was unable to utilize his star-power to bolster his talk and music show's success.
Fox-owned Twentieth Television said it believed the goal of providing viewers with 'an engaging and alternative source of entertainment' was accomplished, however “On-Air” was unable to hold viewers attention, leading to low ratings.
'It was our desire that the program would appeal to a wide array of viewers but, unfortunately, the marketplace's response was not as strong as we had hoped,' the studio said in a statement.
While the show’s end may hurt Seacrest feelings, his growing wallet will definitely offer some comfort. He will continue his work as host of TV’s 'American Idol,' which returns for its fourth season in January 2005. Seacrest will also continue hosting the weekly countdown show 'American Top 40' and his Los Angeles radio show also entitled, 'On-Air with Ryan Seacrest,' (for lack of a better name?)
'I am proud of my team who worked tirelessly every day,' he said in a statement. 'I wouldn't have changed anything about this entire experience and I look forward to building my business within Twentieth Television.'
Twentieth also carried no grudges with the host, and described him as bringing 'a high level of talent and class to the industry' that hey plan to use in future 'appropriate projects.'
Despite its cancellation, 'On-Air' will be broadcast on the network through Sept. 17.
