Anthony Anderson, best known for small roles in several movies, was charged Wednesday with raping a woman working as an extra on his current movie.
The actor, 33, and the film’s assistant director, Wayne Witherspoon, 42, were charged with aggravated rape of the woman on the set of the upcoming film, 'Hustle & Flow,' which was being shot at the Shelby County Correctional Facility, outside of Memphis, Tenn.
The incident occurred Tuesday when, according to a police statement, Witherspoon lured the woman into a film trailer, forcibly removed her clothes, exposed himself, and sexually violated her along with Anderson. The victim, 25, told authorities the men assaulted her with their hands and took nude pictures of her.
Shular said a passer-by heard screams coming from the trailer and opened the door. The accuser, also an extra in the film, ran out nude, he said.
Both Anderson and Witherspoon were being held at the jail on $20,000 bond after being charged with one count each of aggravated assault, said sheriff’s spokesman, Steve Shular.
Anderson’s spokesman, Allan Mayer, said the entertainer 'absolutely denies the heinous charges.'
'Anthony is a happily married family man who has never been accused of - no less involved in - anything remotely like this,” Mayer said in a statement. “We are confident that when all the facts come out, he will be completely exonerate.'
Anderson has had small roles in several Hollywood films, including “Kangaroo Jack,” “Malibu’s Most Wanted,' “Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London,' 'Scary Movie 3,' 'Big Momma's House,' 'Me, Myself and Irene,' and the original 'Barbershop.'
