Ben Affleck has been spotted everywhere this week in Boston. He seems to be using the Democratic National Convention to boost his sagging popularity. In addition to the many interviews he has given over the week, he has been in attendance at nearly every Democratic function in the city. He was seen earlier in the week giving Katie Couric a tour of Boston, he has interviewed the Kerry girls for Harper’s Bazaar and though he has no official role in this convention he seems to be Boston’s goodwill ambassador at large. What’s even more interesting is that he has dropped his post J-Lo sloppy poker-player look and instead has appeared in suits with his hair gelled.
Perhaps Affleck has more time on his hands because he recently split with local honey Enza Samabataro. Affleck confirmed to the New York Daily News that his fame was the reason for the break-up. ' 'It's difficult. I meet people, but I feel like I'm this walking nightmare. You get photographed with me once at a baseball game, and The Enquirer will find out every dirty little thing that ever happened in your family's history,” Affleck was reported as saying.
Affleck was seen being affectionate with Vanessa Kerry, the blond Kerry sister. There have been rumors of a romance and in the interview with Harper’s Bazaar the two joke about the gossip but both camps are reporting that they are just good friends.
Affleck plans to spend the weekend campaigning with John Kerry and John Edwards in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. He has not indicated any firm plans to run for office but in an interview for the May 2001 issue of GQ magazine, Affleck said: 'My fantasy is that someday I'm independently wealthy enough that I'm not beholden to anybody, so I can run for Congress on the grounds that everyday people – be they singers or poets or bankers or lawyers or teachers – should be in government.' Maybe someday soon, he will take a page from Schwarzenegger’s book by marrying into a Massachusetts political family and running for office.
